JOM: Her Courage. Her People. Her Choice. JOM is a playable adventure and action game featuring a young fictional African female warrior named JOM. The game combines combat, rescue missions, environmental interaction, and meaningful player choices. Instead of making the game only about shooting enemies, JOM gives players different ways to solve problems, including disarming enemies, distracting them, rescuing prisoners, protecting civilians, and using the environment. The project was created to support girls and inclusive representation in games by putting a strong young African female character at the center of the story. JOM is designed to show that girls can be heroes, leaders, protectors, problem-solvers, and decision-makers. The game also aims to create an inclusive experience where different players can participate through accessible controls, language options, and accessibility features. The game includes five playable levels: The Village, The Forest, The Captured, The Bridge, and The Choice. Players can move, aim, shoot, protect civilians, rescue prisoners, and interact with objects such as ropes, bells, locks, weapons, and lanterns. JOM also has a special ability called Warrior's Sense, which helps reveal hidden enemies, endangered civilians, important objects, and dangerous areas. The game includes a functional health, ammunition, score, objective, civilian and rescue system, as well as win and lose conditions. Players can level up after completing missions and choose upgrades that affect gameplay, such as faster reload, better movement, more accurate aim, longer Warrior's Sense, or extra health. The visual design uses a 2.5D African-inspired world with villages, forests, mountains, traditional-inspired structures, vegetation, markets, and environmental animations. The game also includes moving characters, particles, shooting effects, sound effects, atmospheric music, and cinematic transitions to make the world feel alive rather than static. Accessibility and language options are also included to make the game more welcoming to different players. Players can change the interface language and use features such as larger text, high contrast, target outlines, voice guidance, low-vision mode, and adjustable sound settings. The project was developed through an iterative process of designing the character and game world, building gameplay systems, adding missions and environmental interactions, improving the interface, and testing the game to keep the core mechanics playable and functional. JOM is ultimately a game about courage, inclusion, protection, choices, and consequences. It encourages players to see girls as capable heroes and shows that strength is not only about fighting, but also about protecting people, solving problems, making difficult choices, and creating a better outcome for others.
