Project Overview Danfo Dash is a high-speed 2D vertical endless runner that transforms the chaotic kinetic energy of Lagos rush hour into a tightly scoped, culturally rich arcade experience. Built exclusively on Dala Studio, the game merges reflex-based survival with a unique educational twist, fully embracing the CANEX "Afro-Inspired Play" mandate. Core Gameplay Loop Players control an iconic yellow Danfo minibus, swiping across three lanes to dodge unpredictable street hazards including okada bikes, keke napeps, and deep potholes. Collecting gold Naira coins increases the score, which progressively accelerates the global speed of the road to create an intense, constantly scaling challenge. The Second Chance Trivia Instead of a standard game-over screen upon collision, players are presented with a high-stakes African History trivia question. Answering correctly instantly destroys the obstacle and grants temporary invincibility, turning historical knowledge into a vital survival mechanic. Questions cover verified pan-African history, from the Mali Empire and the Battle of Adwa to the Great Pyramids of Meroë. Pan-African Customization A built-in garage allows players to swap the classic Lagos yellow for dynamic colorways representing the flags of Nigeria, Ethiopia, Ghana, and South Africa. This fosters continental pride and personalizes the player's experience. Cultural Integration & Game "Juice" The project is heavily anchored in authentic regional storytelling. Procedural Afrobeats audio, localized Nigerian street slang pop-ups (like "E Choke!") for near-misses, and satisfying coin-collection particle effects deliver a highly polished and immersive game feel. Technical Approach Rather than relying on heavy image assets, the UI utilizes native CSS gradient masking for a seamless horizon blend, hardware-accelerated transforms for locked 60fps scrolling, and inline DOM manipulation for instant vehicle color swaps without layout shift. The entire playable prototype, including the trivia state-freeze logic, was generated natively within Dala Studio during the official Create-Thon build window.
